Team Secret are the Champions of The Chongqing Major
Team Secret have become the champions of The Chongqing Major by defeating Virtus.pro in the grand finals, receiving $350,000 in prize money and 4,950 DPC Points, securing their ticket to The International 2019.
Team Secret qualified for the playoffs stage from the second place of Group B, where they lost to PSG.LGD (0:2) but outplayed Thunder Predator (2:0) and Forward Gaming (2:1). Puppey’s team managed to reach the grand finals through the upper bracket, where they defeated Team Liquid (2:0), EHOME (2:0) and Virtus.pro (2:1). The final series has concluded with the 3-1 score in favour of the European team. Thanks to 4,950 points they received for this victory, Team Secret have become the second team to qualify for TI9. Earlier Virtus.pro also received enough points to qualify for The International thanks to emerging victorious at The Kuala Lumpur Major.
The Chongqing Major was organized by StarLadder and ImbaTV with the financial support of Valve. The event took place on January 19-27th in the Chinese city of Chongqing. First, sixteen participating teams competed in four GSL groups. Then top two teams from each group advanced to the upper bracket, while the others made it to the lower bracket. The prize pool was set at $1,000,000.
