Virtus.pro are the Champions of the ESL Hamburg Major

Virtus.pro are the winners of the first major Dota 2 tournament of the season – ESL One Hamburg 2017. In the Grand Finals they defeated Team Secret with the 2-0 score, taking home $500,000 and 750 Qualifying Points.

ESL One Hamburg started with the group stage, in which eight participating teams were placed into two groups of four with the GSL format. Top two teams from each group advanced to the playoffs, while the other two teams were eliminated. Team Secret and Newbee were the strongest in Group A, while Virtus.pro and Team Liquid placed first and second in the Group B.

In the playoffs the four best teams faced each other in a single-elimination bracket. In the semifinals Team Secret outplayed the champions of The International 2017 Team Liquid with the 2-1 score, while Virtus.pro defeated the TI7’s runner-up Newbee with the same score. In the Grand Finals the CIS giants looked as strong as never and didn’t leave a chance to Puppey’s team – Virtus.pro finished the series with the 2-0 score, with each game taking only 40 minutes to end in their favor. In addition to becoming the champions of the first major tournament of the season and taking home $500,000 and 750 Qualifier Points, the team’s captain Alexei "Solo" Berezin has been voted MVP of the tournament, getting a brand-new Mercedes-Benz car as a reward from the tournament’s sponsor.

  • 1st place: Virtus.pro ($500,000 and 750 DPC Points)
  • 2nd place: Team Secret ($200,000 and 450 DPC Points)
  • 3rd-4th place: Team Liquid, Newbee ($90,000 and 150 DPC Points each)
  • 5th-6th place: Evil Geniuses, Keen Gaming ($40,000)
  • 7th-8th place: Fnatic, SG-e-sports ($20,000)
