Team Dignitas Are Champions of Western Clash #1
Team Dignitas managed to duplicate last year’s success and win their second Western Clash championship. In the final best-of-seven series they defeated Zealots 4-3.
Western Clash #1 is a major Heroes of the Storm LAN-event, where 4 best teams from both Europe and North America compete for their share of a $100,000 prize pool. They were placed in a double-elimination bracket with best-of-three quarterfinals, best-of-five all other matches and best-of-seven grand finals. As in the previous year, the event was dominated by the European teams who looked superior then their opponents from North America – only one NA team managed to get into top-4 teams of the tournament. While Team Dignitas didn’t drop a single series in the upper bracket by defeating HeroesHearth (2-1), Team Twelve (3-1) and Tempo Storm (3-0), their opponents from Zealots were defeated by Tempo Storm already in the quarterfinals and dropped to the lower bracket just after the first round, so they had to make it all the way through the losers round – on their way to the grand finals they defeated Team Freedom (2-0), Team Twelve (3-1), Fnatic (3-0) and Tempo Storm (3-1). The final series concluded in the favor of Team Dignitas with the 4-3 score, granting them $30,000 in prize money.
