ESL One Genting 2018: Newbee Claim the Championship by Defeating Team Liquid
ESL One Genting 2018 has concluded with a long-awaited victory of Newbee over Team Liquid.
The minor tournament was held at January 23-28 and featured 16 teams competing for a $400,000 prize pool. The event started with the GSLgroup stage, which determined the best eight teams to advance to the single-elimination playoffs bracket. Team Liquid placed first in Group B, thus advancing to the semifinals, where they defeated Evil Geniuses (2-0) to secure their spot in the Grand Finals. Newbee placed second in the Group B, thus they started their way to the top from the quarterfinals. In the playoffs stage they outplayed Vici Gaming (2-0) and Team Secret (2-0). In the Grand Finals Newbee finally managed to gain revenge for their loss at The International 2017 – the final series ended with a 3-2 score in favour of the Chinese team, granting them the prize of $160,000 and 200 DPC Points.
